Join us in Expanding Access to Justice

Pro bono service is a powerful expression of the legal profession’s highest values—justice, equity, and service. When attorneys volunteer their time and expertise, they help ensure that everyone, regardless of income, has access to the legal support they need to navigate life’s most critical moments. By participating in pro bono activities, Texas attorneys not only change individual lives—they uphold the highest standards of the legal profession and contribute meaningfully to bridging the justice gap for low-income individuals and families.
Greater Waco Legal Services offers multiple avenues through which attorneys may volunteer. See below for more information and click the link to express your interest in volunteering with us.

Opportunities

Monthly free legal advice clinics

GWLS hosts free, legal consultations on the first Monday of each month at 6pm. Clinics are hosted at various locations around Waco in partnership with Waco ISD, HOT Goodwill and Waco Family Medicine. Attorneys provide short consultations, brief legal advice, and supportive coaching for low-income folks from the greater Waco area. Our clinics are open to most legal questions and issues, so we need attorneys from all types of practice areas, but especially those with experience in family law, probate, tenant/landlord, and general civil litigation. Ongoing representation is neither required nor expected.

Referral List

When we’re unable to take on a case due to capacity, scope, or conflict, we refer applicants to trusted local attorneys. By joining our referral list, you can help ensure that those in need still have access to quality legal support. We ask that you consider the financial limitations of these referrals and offer sliding scale fees when possible. And remember—services provided at a “substantially reduced fee” still count as pro bono under Texas guidelines. Your willingness to meet clients where they are can make all the difference.

Co-counseling and Mentorship

At times, we take on cases that stretch our resource capacity or venture into less familiar areas of law. To ensure our clients continue to receive the highest quality representation, we welcome the opportunity to co-counsel with experienced attorneys or receive mentorship from those with deep knowledge in specific practice areas. Your guidance and partnership can help us grow as advocates, expand our impact, and ensure that no one faces the legal system alone.

Legal Empowerment Workshops

Help demystify the law and empower our community by volunteering to lead or co-lead a Legal Empowerment Workshop. These workshops are a vital way to share practical legal knowledge on topics like immigration, housing, wills, and family law. By volunteering, you can educate, inspire, and equip individuals with the tools they need to advocate for themselves and their families—making justice more accessible, one workshop at a time.

Support Justice in Other Ways

We understand that not everyone has the time to volunteer—and that’s okay. You can still make a powerful impact by supporting our work through a donation. Your gift helps provide critical legal services to those who need them most and strengthens our efforts to build a more just and equitable community. Every contribution matters.
